Call for a coordinator for BID regional support teams in three regions

Deadline: 12 July 2024 The GBIF Secretariat is seeking applications from an individual candidate interested in coordinating three regionally distributed teams supporting projects in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Pacific Islands. This call complements a separate call for regional support contractors for the Biodiversity Information for Development (BID) programme. The candidate selected through this call will guide and contribute to the work of distributed teams of support contractors working directly with communities of practice in the region. Candidates who wish to be considered for the part-time roles must respond to the call for applications for regional support contracts. The regional support coordinator must reside within GBIF’s Africa, Oceania, and Latin America and the Caribbean regions and will guide and participate in the work of the regional support teams assisting BID project grantees engaged in data mobilization and use. The selected candidate will play a key role in organizing the work of the three distributed regional teams. Planning for BID’s next phase is underway and expected to begin in the third quarter of 2024. This programme aims to improve access and availability to biodiversity data and information for decision-makers in developing countries, enabling the effective implementation of multilateral agreements such as the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). Recognizing the challenge of implementing data mobilization projects successfully, BID emphasizes the role of capacity enhancement in helping funded projects achieve their goals. The regional support coordinator will add to ongoing efforts of node managers, regional representatives, and volunteer trainers and mentors by: Coordinating the distributed help-desk assistance, training, and mentoring provided by the regional support teams contracted by the Secretariat in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Oceania Establishing knowledge flows between the BID project teams, the Secretariat, the GBIF network, and other experts from the GBIF community Ensuring the achievement of the objectives set out for each of the three regional support teams   Application procedure Applications must be submitted in English through the GBIF Grants Portal by 12 July 2024 at 23:59 CEST (UTC+2). Deadline: 12 July 2024 The GBIF Secretariat is seeking applications from individual candidates interested in providing in-region contract support for projects in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Pacific Islands. Candidates must reside within GBIF’s Africa, Oceania, and Latin America and the Caribbean regions, where they will assist project grantees engaged in data mobilization and use under the Biodiversity Information for Development (BID) programme. The selected contractors will form distributed teams charged with strengthening the communities of practitioners in their region. Planning for BID’s next phase is underway and expected to begin in the third quarter of 2024. Pending the anticipated renewal of funding from the European Union, GBIF may place selected candidates on a reserve list prior to their starting work later in 2024. The reserve list for these contracts will be valid until 31 August 2026 and may be extended at the discretion of the GBIF Secretariat. Call opens for nominations to 2024 GBIF Graduate Researchers Award

This annual programme aims to foster and recognize innovative research and discovery in biodiversity informatics by graduate students whose master’s and doctoral studies rely on GBIF-mediated data The 2024 programme will provide a pair of €5,000 prizes recognizing the work of two early-career researchers—preferably, one master’s and one PhD candidate—who receive formal nominations from the heads of delegation or node managers of GBIF Participant countries.. A jury organized by GBIF Science Committee will select two award recipients from the pool of nominees whose names are received by the GBIF Secretariat by 24 June 2024. The GBIF Secretariat will announce winners before the 31st meeting of the GBIF Governing Board (GB31) and present the winners’ work at the meeting in Portugal in October 2024.   National deadlines for 2024 While the deadline for receipt of nominations at the GBIF Secretariat is 24 June, local deadlines do apply!
